Education

Applied Physics major at Columbia University

Experience

I have been tutoring fellow students since high school. In high school, I tutored for the California Scholarship Federation during lunches, mostly in math and science. In addition, I helped my friends with their classes and led study sessions for tests with other students in my classes. After graduating from high school as an AP Scholar with Distinction, this honor and a weighted GPA of 4.57 led to my acceptance everywhere I applied, including Stanford, UC Berkeley, and Columbia University. Eager for a fresh challenge, I flew across the country to New York City and studied Applied Physics at Columbia University. While at university, I continued to lead study sessions with my classmates, though I didn't continue with formal tutoring. Now I live in Sacramento where I teach and tutor the SAT and ACT for a national test prep company. In addition, I tutor high school students in various subjects including Calculus and Chemistry. I am a receptive tutor and have learned to adapt my teaching style to meet your learning style. I understand that there is not a one-size fits all style of teaching; by tailoring my lessons, I work at your pace to constantly challenge you while never giving you more than you can handle. I lead with questions rather than lecturing, which helps you discover the right answers by yourself. This individualized attention builds confidence in students and gives them the courage they need to unlock their real potential. Through my experience, I have learned that one of the most important factors in making any learning experience stick is the student's excitement for the material. That's why I always try to make the sessions exciting and share my passion for learning by showing how the material relates to our lives.
